You’d think that after 20+ years in crisis communications, I’d be ready for anything. But after weeks of planning, prepping, and testing, my first newsletter still hit an unexpected snag.
The culprit? Some back-end verification acronym soup that keeps emails out of spam filters. (Pretty important for a newsletter, though, right?) I didn’t understand how to fix it, but thankfully, I knew whom to call. Big thanks to my former colleague William Moore for stepping in and making my newsletter dreams a reality. (And believe me when I say this isn't the first time he's saved the day!)
Like most things in life, this experience was a reminder that detours are inevitable—and they’re also learning opportunities. Every hiccup teaches us something if we let it. This time, I was reminded of the importance of perspective, humility, resilience and self-compassion.
Just as important? Trusting the right person to ride shotgun, which is a great metaphor for coaching. Ultimately, you’re in the driver’s seat, deciding where you want to go. But the journey is a lot smoother (and more rewarding) when you have someone by your side to help you grow and support you along the way.
