JOMO!

You’re probably familiar with FOMO—the fear of missing out. Perhaps you're even familiar with ROMO—the relief of missing out—since Cillian Murphy recently espoused its virtues to Stephen Colbert.

But have you met their happier cousin, JOMO? JOMO is the joy of missing out.

One of the women in the fall WTF (What the Forties?!) group described how elated she felt on a recent trip with her husband. She realized she wasn’t missing out on anything important, only escaping the constant swirl of busy-ness. Her description for this feeling stuck with me. JOMO!

It’s a state of fulfillment we should all aspire to, isn't it? Here are three simple ways you can get there:

  1. Prioritize what matters most. Let go of obligations that don’t align with your values or season of life.
  2. Create white space. Give yourself permission to rest, unplug, and simply be.
  3. Celebrate saying no. Every no to something draining is a yes to something life-giving.

If you’re local to the Lexington area, I’d love for you to join me for a JOMO-filled workshop: “Ho, Ho, No!” The holidays leave too many of us overbooked, overspent, and overwhelmed with guilt and “shoulds.” We’ve all been there—trying to be everything for everyone and ending up exhausted instead of joyful. What if this year you gave yourself permission to say no, set bold boundaries, and design the holidays your way? When you drop the guilt and ditch the stress, you show up lighter, happier, and more present. Join us Monday, Nov. 3, 5:30–7 p.m. at The Willow, where we’ll put people-pleasing on the naughty list and practice saying yes to boundaries, balance, and the kind of holiday that actually lights you up. RSVP to this free event below!

Wherever you are, I encourage you to rewrite the rules of how you live. Leave room for what you really want—and let the joy of missing out be the gift to yourself that keeps on giving. 🎁

    Real Talk

PR is, and always will be, about relationships. Empathy, trust, and service never go out of style and, in fact, should lead. In an era of AI, automation, and inbox overload, real connection is your greatest advantage. In my latest article, "People Over Pitches: It’s Media Relations for a Reason,"  I explain how the skills that make you effective in PR also make you a stronger leader. (Like most leadership lessons, the tips in this article transcend industries.)

    Brain Food

Leadership isn’t only measured by grand gestures—tiny acts of care matter just as much. In Forbes, William Arruda argues that micro-generosity (small, consistent acts that show empathy and thoughtfulness) is what builds belonging, strengthens culture, and reinforces trust. Rather than aiming for momentous impact, leaders who invest in small gestures create ripple effects. In a world that rewards noise and visibility, micro-generosity reminds us that meaningful connection is a quiet superpower. I'm here for it!

    JOMO On Your Terms

The joy of missing out isn’t necessarily about doing less. It’s about choosing more of what matters to you. May this week bring you the courage to say no, the clarity to say yes, and the space to enjoy the life you’re living.

And remember, I’m always in your corner. 💪
