Bet On Yourself
I’m writing this newsletter from 30,000 feet in the air, on my way to do something I’ve never done before.
I’m en route to Portland, Oregon, where I’ll be filming footage for a speaker reel — part of a bigger goal to expand the speaking side of my business (think: keynotes at conventions and conferences).
As I type this, I’m feeling a mix of emotions: optimism, excitement, and yes… a little fear.
Naturally, that’s all the opening my inner critic — I call her Kathy — needs to make her entrance with self-doubt, second-guessing, and a sprinkle of self-sabotage. But today, I’m blocking Kathy at the door and choosing instead to bet on myself.
When I set out to become a certified executive coach a couple of years ago, I never imagined this would be part of the path. What I have learned, though, is that speaking is a values-aligned way for me to help organizations drive performance by empowering people to lead with intention and communicate with confidence. As the audiences grow, so does the opportunity for impact.
Isn’t that the fun part of growth? Having a plan — but holding it loosely — creates space to pursue unexpected opportunities (like my TEDx talk next month!) and see where they lead. It’s an intentional and flexible way to approach both life and work.
Betting on yourself is always an investment that always pays dividends.
If you’ve been feeling a nudge toward something bigger — or just different — I’d love to hear about it.
Consider this an open invitation to think out loud together.
